5 out of 5 stars Bunn BXB 10 Cup Professional Brewer   December 28, 2009

For the past 40 years of my life I have been deprived of my favorite beverage at home...a superior cup of coffee. You see, I have been using cheap coffee makers whose price depends on gadgets that I never use: timers and displays. The coffee never had a uniform taste UNTIL NOW. My wife purchased the Bunn Professional Brewer for me and I have been in 7th heaven ever since. The taste is uniform, temperature just right, and I feel like I am sipping my coffee in a fine restaurant. It is now time to purchase one of my favorite coffees to try in this brewer. The coffee, for anyone interested, is New Orleans French Market Coffee. Touch of hickory blended. In the old Mr. Coffee it was horrible when compared with the taste when in New Orleans. The Bunn will tell the tale! I am certain it will be a good one.

The Bunn BXB 10-cup coffee brewer will be a convenient addition to most small offices. Personally, I use the Bunn at trade shows for my JavaFit coffee business. When I get to the event, I fill the machine with water, plug it in, and set up my table while the Bunn heats up. In about 10 minutes, the unit is ready to brew the first pot. Since I transfer the coffee immediately to one of several air pots, I don't need a coffee maker with multiple burners. In fact, I don't even need the single burner this unit has.

The quality of this budget-priced Bunn, like its more pricey siblings, is first rate. It is mostly plastic, but sturdy. I like the fact that it is lightweight and compact because it travels well. My only beef is that, to empty it in order to put it back into storage, you need to unscrew the output spout and turn the machine upside down. Water empties -- not from the filler on top -- but from the dispenser/spout. When upside down, picture a drinking fountain -- the water flows upward out of the dispensing hole. It's a bit messy, and I wonder how much water is leaking into places it shouldn't be.

Naturally, if you are using this coffee maker as intended -- in your small office -- you will rarely if ever need to empty it. Unlike a home brewer, this machine is designed to keep the water inside hot all the time so you can have a fresh pot of coffee in three minutes. And believe me, this Bunn performs. I have a hot pot of coffee in UNDER two and a half minutes. In fact, these commercial brewers spew water into the filter basket with such speed that, if you notice your coffee is weak, use two filters to keep the hot water in your grounds longer. That is what I do to get a great tasting cup of coffee.

2 out of 5 stars My BXB started leaking   December 19, 2009

Just recently my wife noticed that the Bunn coffee maker was leaking when she poured in the water to make a pot of coffee. Today I took the time to inspect the coffee maker closely to locate the leak.

I saw water come out of a small hole underneath the top assembly and behind the brew funnel. I took the top off to see inside where the leak was coming from. I found that the plastic was eroded and a crack had developed where the stainless tank is sealed with a rubber seal to the upper assembly. I also found multiple plastic cracks around the copper tube where the spray head screws to the tube.

An guess what, the three year warranty expired four days ago.

The plastic top assembly is just not designed to handle the heat of hot water and starts to leak at those(not very hot)hot contact points. Is is planned leak failure after 3yrs so I have to buy another coffee maker? I know there are plastics that are capable of withstanding hot water temperatures but Bunn is not using them.

Maybe a Bunn Commercial model would not have that problem?
