Product Description 10 cups. Flavor release brew technology. 24-hour programmable clock/timer. Double-wall, insulated carafe with drip-free spout. Model Krups 199-73
Amazon.com Review By steeping ground coffee for nearly 2 minutes to begin the brewing process, this coffee maker delivers up to 10 cups of full-flavored coffee and then keeps it warm in an insulated thermos-carafe for hours. The thermos-carafe seals in heat during the brewing process and afterward to lock in flavor. This eliminates the need for a warming plate, which can turn coffee bitter. For making wake-up coffee, the machine's programmable clock-timer can be set up to 24 hours in advance. There's also an automatic interrupter that halts coffee flow for 20 seconds during the brewing cycle if the thermos-carafe is removed for a quick pour. For best results, remove the carafe from the base when the brewing process is complete, sealing off the carafe and insuring hot coffee. This sleek coffee maker measures 8-1/2 by 15-1/2 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide by 10-1/4 inches deep. --Fred Brack

Poor packing and broken May 2, 2010 Mary L. Greene (Myrtle Point,Or.) After we finally recieved the coffee maker it was poorly packed and was split from bottom to halfway up side.Seller showed no interest in solving the problem but Amazon was very helpful.
I have purchased nine of these. Love 'em! February 28, 2010 P. Heller (Dallas TX) I have now purchased nine of the Krups 199 and nearly identical Model 201. These were all purchased in the past year in various thrift stores like Goodwill. I have both the black and the white plastic models with vacuum glass thermal carafes and also the stainless thermal carafe. The thermal carafes are what first led me to use this coffeemaker. They keep the coffee hot enough to drink for several hours. The plastic carafe with the glass vacuum liner is more efficient and keeps hot for 3-4 hours. The stainless is good for 2-3 hours. The Aroma Control feature is a plus. As the hot water starts to fill the basket, it slowly warms a "spring" which, after a minute or two, then opens the valve allowing the coffee to drip out. I believe this extra brew time improves the coffee. A second valve interrupts the flow if the carafe is removed. This allows a cup or two to be poured before the brewing cycle is complete. I use paper filters but I also have the permanent filter which works just as well but, of course, must be dumped and cleaned. I have purchased so many to be able to give them to friends who like good coffee in a thermal carafe. Note: The coffee has little contact with the air while brewing. This maintains the flavor better (Yea!) but also limits (Boo!) that wonderful aroma that usually permeates the room when coffee is brewing.
Pros: brews good coffee pretty fast, thermal carafe eliminates need for heater, keeps warm for hours, programmable feature easy to use, automatically turns off after brew cycle, no grounds in coffee
Cons: hard to read water level in sight glass, hard to thread carafe top, white plastic stains over time, too tall to fit under some cabinets
Krups Aroma Contro 10-Cup Programmable Thermal Coffeemaker, White January 30, 2010 Linda C. Fulleton (REYNOLDS, IN, US) We love our old machine so much, we were afraid that(just in case)if it ever breaks, we should get another one to replace it, so I ordered one. I found this on line. We're so excited about my find and purchase.
Exploding Krups caraf December 18, 2009 Donald D. Wunsch (Ankeny, IA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Had a Krups Aromacontrol for several years. Not as good as prior Krups models, but rates about a B overall. This morning while rinsing it out at the sink, it literally exploded like a gun blast. There was glass everywhere. I did not hit it anywhere, and was doing my normal "rinse" when this happened. Incredible mess.
Not buying it again February 16, 2009 Nicole Apple (Michigan, United States) It makes good coffee & thermos is useful, but there are a few things I didn't like:
- The lid of the carafe is awkward to close sometimes. I spill coffee more compared to other carafes I've owned.
- Once in a while, I don't push the filter box all the way, causing coffee to overflow - I know this is my user error, but it happens more often than usual with this machine.
- Carafe handle broke after 1.5 years of use. It looks like the issue was loose screw & a piece of degraded metal that connects the carafe and handle. I was disappointed how cheaply it is made, for the price I've paid.
I'm looking for something a little higher quality for my next coffee maker - I might have to pay more but if it can last more than 1.5 years it's worth it.
