1 out of 5 stars makes coffee but messy and bad design   February 8, 2010
nihil (Chicago/NW Indiana, USA)
It does what it was designed to do, which is make coffee. It makes hot coffee. That's about where the good things about this maker stop.

1. The basket where you put the grounds and filter is almost too short if you're making more then half a pot and you put in the recommended amount of grounds they float, which is the process of making coffee, but water will pump almost too fast into the grounds. This causes the grounds to sometimes wick their way up and over the filter. You have to use two filters almost every time to avoid getting grounds in your coffee carafe.

2. We had two of these and eventually the buttons 'stick.' This happens regardless of careful use. Ours started turning itself off. My husband has dutifully taken it apart and cleaned them off more then once. We've decided if it fails again we're replacing the maker with a different one.

3. The 'sneak a cup' feature is handy but goodness is it MESSY. It will continue to drip a little instead of completely stop which is somewhat understandable. However, the four or five large drips hit the hot burner and this then causes little coffee droplets to spit all over the counter.

4. Carafe design is awful. It is balanced OK but that's about it. You will drip coffee on the counter or down the pot no matter what. If you've made a full pot you HAVE to carefully pour into your cup while keeping the top/lid of the carafe off the pot otherwise coffee will follow the natural curve of the carafe and up against the lid and pour everywhere BUT your cup.

We got ours for free for our wedding but I wouldn't purchase one. Spend a little extra and get something that has less problems.

2 out of 5 stars Waste of Money   December 15, 2009

Very disappointed in this coffeemaker. We had our old Mr. Coffee for 8 years and it was still working when we decided to get a new one. Since the previous Mr. Coffee had worked so well, we did not hesitate to buy another one. Replacing the new machine after only 2 months of use. Yes, ours did leak. It leaks when you try to fill the water reservoir and it leaks when you pour the brewed coffee. It has leaked grounds and overflowed on the counter and floor 3 times, for 3 different people. It happened to my husband last night and included some weird white substance that is proving very difficult to remove from the cupboards and drawers it spilled onto. At first, we thought it had stripped the finish off of the wood but it really appears to be a chalk-like stain that does not come off with normal cleaning of soap and water. Off to the store to buy a new coffeemaker - not Mr. Coffee.

1 out of 5 stars Designed to break   September 18, 2009

This product is the poster child of a product that is designed to break after being used for a relatively short period of time. After a year or so of normal use, I found that I could no longer turn the coffee pot on. After fiddling with it for a short period of time, most people would toss it and go out and buy a replacement. I took it apart, however (the manufacturer was clever enough to replace two of the six phillips-bit screws with torx-bit screws and hide them under the rubber feet which once again would have prevented their dirty secret from being discovered from someone less prepared) and I found that they offset the power switch a quarter of an inch side of the external button, and glued an activating arm to the external button so it would press the power switch. Naturally, such a flimsy arrangement would break off in short order. Looking at the curcuit board shows absolutely no practical reason to set it up that way (it would have actually increased their manufacturing costs by a couple of pennies) other than to design a product that you would be forced to replace after a year or so of normal, daily use.

I won't be buying another Mr. Coffee product again.

5 out of 5 stars love it!   February 23, 2009

I recently ordered this coffeemaker, and so far so good! It works quickly and quietly, the time and delay start are easy to set, and it makes a great cup of coffee.

Contrary to popular opinion, the machine does not leak, and the carafe design isn't much different than most. If you actually pay a little attention to what you're doing, you'll be fine. Also, if you leave the coffeemaker plugged into the wall, it does keep the times you set (both the clock and the delay start). You just need to turn the delay function on each time you want to use it (one press of a button).

Great coffeemaker for a simple cup of coffee. Works like a charm!

I have been using my Mr. Coffee maker & haven't had 1 bit of mess. My buttons work, no leakage anywhere & no drips while pouring. I take my time while getting my coffee ready & I carefully push the unit back to the wall after filling it with water & I slowly pour my coffee into my cup. It's easy to use, it makes hot coffee & it looks great (I got the black version). I have no complaints about this coffee maker.
