Good for 1-2 mugs August 8, 2010 T. Christensen (South US) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's good but I have to pour coffee over the sink because it leaks when pouring into a cup. Brews really fast. I only need a small amount of coffee to make a full pot and it makes 2 cups. I've had this for 6 months and it still brews nice and hot. That's more than I can say for a lot of other pots, esp. Hamilton Beach makers which notoriously quick working after a few months.
Krups gold filter does not fit July 12, 2010 dadmo The amazon site suggests buying the Krups 052 Gold Tone Filter for use with this coffee maker. It DOES NOT fit. I had to return the gold filter. I have been using bamboo filters and am pleased with the results.
Good simple, small maker July 7, 2010 Greg W (St Louis, MO) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This can make excellent coffee with the few caveats mentioned in some of the other reviews. In particular, its water heater isn't quite fast enough in heating water to the proper temperature (200F). Basically, the first water out is cooler than it should be, but then it warms up as the maker progresses. It works fine when starting out with room temperature/warm water. This is no Technivorm, but its a lot cheaper and smaller.
Water is dispersed in a 5 point pattern -- the 4 corners of a square plus the center. In general, grounds are pretty well saturated if you don't put too much in (not an issue). Roughly, the upper limit works out to 5-6 scoops of beans (the provided scoop holds about 14grams of beans). Beyond this amount, the grounds are likely to bloom and hit the filter cover as well as not get saturated evenly. If looking for a gold tone filter, the Cuisinart GTF-4 works fine. The Krups 052 filter will NOT fit. The Krups filter is too large and will not allow the plastic top to fit onto the filter holder.
Very nice coffeemaker. July 5, 2010 Darchie (west chester, Pa) I have had my Zojirushi for a week now and have only 1 complaint. I would love the lid to be a little more secure on the carafe, otherwise it's a great product. Nice looking, takes up very little space, and produces a nice, hot cup of coffee. Clean up is a breeze with this unit. Very pleased with my purchase and well worth the money.
Well-made Coffeemaker July 2, 2010 Robert Dixon (Holly Springs, NC USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm really pleased with the mechanics of this coffeemaker. It's well made and designed. It works as advertised and makes good coffee.
My only comment relates more to how I like coffee than to the coffeemaker. I like generally strong coffee. I gravitate to the bold coffees at Starbucks, and some of them aren't bold enough for me. The gold standard for me is a Melitta cone filter coffeemaker that I pour into by hand. I know just how to pour so the coffee pools in the filter and spends more time in contact with the grounds, but yet doesn't drain too quickly. Accordingly most drip coffeemakers make coffee I find too weak. Same deal with the french press, because the coffee doesn't all steep in the grounds and then flow through.
Back to the Zojirushi. It has two large holes relative to my favorite Melitta, which has one smaller one, so I completely plugged one of them and partially plugged the other to make it drain more slowly and extract more coffee flavor. By doing that it's now the equal to my Melitta, and much much less trouble than having to stand there and manually drip water into the grounds.
